Leeds United are interested in signing Rangers attacking prodigy Rory Wilson.
That’s according to a report from The Daily Star, who say the Elland Road club are one of a number of teams who are keen to secure a deal for the 16-year-old.
Wilson has been in outstanding form for Rangers’ youth team this season, scoring 40 goals over the course of the campaign.
That not surprisingly, has generated attention from a number of clubs, and it seems that interest in the teenager is growing.
According to this latest update, Leeds, along with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle, are all monitoring the striker, with scouts watching him play for Scotland’s Under 17s this weekend.
It is thought that Wilson will turn down the offer of a new contract with Rangers, in favour of a move down south to play for a Premier League club.
Given his age, it has been suggested that Leeds, or any other club that win the race for his services, would have to pay Rangers GBP300,000 in compensation for his signing.
This certainly feels like a prospect well worth pursuing for Leeds.
It is no secret that the Whites have had great success with bringing young players into their academy in recent years, before turning them into first-team players.
Joe Gelhardt is a prime example of that, and in Wilson, they would be bringing in someone who seemingly has a similar potential to make a big impact in front of goal
That compensation fee also ought to be affordable for a club such as Leeds, and the level of interest there is in Wilson, means it would be something of a coup if they pulled this off.
