Luke Ayling wants to spend the rest of his career at Leeds United and has told club chiefs he wants a new contract, according to The Mirror.
The newspaper reported via their print edition today [7 April, page 53] that Ayling, 30, will be out of contract at the end of the season and his future remains unclear.
But he has told the club he would love to sign a contract extension to see out the remainder of his career with the Yorkshire club.
The Mirror also quotes Ayling as saying: “I’d love to spend the rest of my life in Leeds. I love it here. I brought my family here and I’d live here for the rest of my life.
“Ideally I’d love to stay
here for the rest of my career, but football is a cut-throat business and who
knows what’s in the future.“
Give him a contract
It is imperative that Leeds United do everything they can to keep Ayling at Elland Road after this season.
The defender has become a “cult figure” at Elland Road since signing for the club in 2016 and played a vital role in helping the team to promotion back to the Premier League in 2020.
He is also a natural leader in the dressing room.
Ayling featured in every single game in the 2020/21 campaign to help the Whites consolidate their Premier League position under Marcelo Bielsa.
The full-back has continued to play a big role this campaign and his energy at both ends of the pitch has proved crucial to the way Leeds play.
He has been a key figure in the club’s improved form under manager Jesse Marsch and this was shown most recently against Wolves where Ayling scored and assisted in the 3-2 victory.
In other Leeds United news, this Elland Road ace could be thrown under the bus by Marsch after what happened on Monday.
