‘Lovely for us’ – Jamie Carragher stunned by one Leeds man after solid draw v Palace

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has been showered with praise by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

The American stretched Leeds’ impressive unbeaten run to five matches last night as they drew 0-0 at Crystal Palace.

Leeds also made it back to back clean sheets in the Premier League as they showed the defensive guile to grind out a precious point.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football after the game, as shared on Twitter, Carragher praised the 48-year-old’s start to life in English football.

He commented: “I really like him, I know he’s new to the league and Leeds supporters really liked the last manager but he’s made a brilliant start and I’m sure they’ll take him to their heart as well.

“The results have been good but just for us [pundits] as well, it’s the answers he gives you and the detail he gives you. It’s lovely for us to get a little bit more information and understanding.

“It’s not just him giving that detail, it’s his energy when he speaks, you can feel it if you were a player in that dressing room.

“There has been a lot of ridicule at different times when we’ve had American coaches or managers within the league, but I’ve been really impressed, not just with the results and the way Leeds have played but also his personality and the way he comes across – I think he’s going to be a great addition to the Premier League.”

Marsching on Together

Leeds showed that they are willing to get stuck in under Marsch, and have displayed tactical know-how as they appear a lot more organised.

Last night’s 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park earned Leeds just their fifth clean sheet in their 33rd Premier League match of the season, two of which have come under Marsch now in consecutive matches.

Despite not being at their free-flowing best against Crystal Palace, Leeds showed their ability to grind out a result to take them five points clear of Everton who occupy the final relegation spot.

It’s back to Elland Road on Saturday where Marsch will face his toughest test yet as league leaders Man City come calling as Pep Guardiola’s side strive to stay ahead of Liverpool in the title race.

City put seven past Leeds at the Etihad back in December but with the hosts looking to make it six unbeaten, it doesn’t look as straightforward for Guardiola and his team this time around.
