MOT View: Defensive duel maestro will be badly missed by Jesse Marsch at Leeds

Leeds United will desperately miss defensive duel master Stuart Dallas, after the Northern Ireland international’s leg break in their defeat to Manchester City.

The flying wing-back has been ruled out for a lengthy period after a collision with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Dallas has been an integral part of Leeds’ success in recent years, with his energy and aggression loved by the Elland Road faithful.

Dallas had a remarkable season last year scoring eight goals, however, his defensive performance this season is what Jesse Marsch’s side will miss during his absence.

As per Wyscout, Dallas has the highest number of defensive duels in the Premier League (345).

At a time when Leeds will want players to show commitment to their relegation fight, they’ve lost their most committed player.

Dallas along with teammate Kalvin Phillips rank in the top ten for defensive duels per 90 in the Premier League.

Leeds are in a situation were every moment in a match is crucial.

Every tackle, every shot or pass can get the crowd behind the side and change the dynamic of the game.

In Dallas, Leeds have lost a player who can spark a game into life.

Whether that be through a tackle or lung-bursting run down the right flank.

Leeds have four cup finals remaining in their second season back in the top-flight.

After the years of struggle to get back into the top-flight, retaining their status in the Premier League is the be all and end all in Yorkshire.

With the loss of Dallas, Leeds need a player to stand up and provide that spark to ignite the crowd.

Kalvin Phillips has to start to be the catalyst in this side.

Despite only just coming back from injury, there is simply no time to play his way into form.

He must hit the ground running and become the player who sparks Leeds’ relegation fight.
