Star likely to get Premier League move regardless of huge game, Leeds watch closely – report

Leeds United will be watching the Championship play-off final between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield very closely on Sunday afternoon [29th May].

The Daily Mail has reported that the Whites have been watching Brennan Johnson very closely this season after his exploits at the City Ground under Steve Cooper.

It is shared that the Welsh international will likely become a Premier League player, even if his Forest side end up losing to our West Yorkshire rivals at Wembley.

Leeds will face a battle to get a deal over the line though.

Johnson is about to enter the final 12 months of his deal with Forest, and promotion to the Premier League would see him likely sign a new contract.

If that doesn’t happen, Forest are in a very vulnerable position.

The Whites, as well as Newcastle and Leicester, are said to be watching the situation very closely and could be sent into battle to get his signature across the line.

At all costs.

This is one of those deals that Leeds simply has to be at the front of the queue for.

Johnson has lighted the Championship up with ease in this past season and is a huge reason behind the success of Nottingham Forest, even Cooper himself would admit that.

Look at players such as Jarrod Bowen to show how well Championship stars can perform in the Premier League, and Johnson certainly fits in that category.

The 21-year-old has scored 18 goals and delivered 10 assists in his 48 games so far this season, including an all-important strike in the play-off semi-finals against Sheffield United.

Not beating Huddersfield will see Forest crumble, with the majority of their squad picked apart – something that will surely be sending nerves through the roof as we speak.

Leeds need to have that bid ready to win the race for this one, Victor Orta will be lauded if he can pull it off.
