Leeds United to bank six-figure windfall as Elland Road asset seals exit – report

Ipswich Town will be paying a transfer fee of £900,000 to Leeds United to sign defender Leif Davis, according to the Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop.

The 22-year-old has been given the chance to impress Jesse Marsch during pre-season with Junior Firpo out injured but the Newcastle-born left-back has not done enough to convince the American.

Marsch wants to be sure he can handle the Premier League but as he is unconvinced, the Whites have now agreed the sale of Davis to Portman Road where he will play in League One.

Davis’ exit leaves Leeds United with no recognised left-backs fit to play the opening game of the season against Wolves with the most likely candidates to replace him being Jack Harrison, Pascal Struijk or Leo Hjelde.

There is still a chance that Victor Orta will dip into the transfer market before Bruno Lage’s side visit Elland Road to find a new left-back but that would not be the only new signing he is trying to make.

Average

It has been an unfortunate time at Leeds for Davis after years of being a fringe player he could have finally got the chance he deserved this season if he had been on the ball down under on the pre-season tour.

With Firpo out of the equation, he would have had no competition at all in his position which would have made him a shoo-in to start against Wolves but he has ultimately been let down by his own averageness.

The fact he could not force his way into the Bournemouth side in the Championship last season says everything about whether he can cut it in the Premier League and at 22 years of age, he has not got that much time to grow anymore.

He needs to be playing every single week at this stage in his career and he is never going to get that while Leeds United are a Premier League team.

In other Leeds United news, the Arnaud Kalimuendo chase rumbles on but it may not be a permanent deal anymore as Christophe Galtier stands his ground.
