MOT View: Leeds United find themselves in transfer triangle as challengers emerge in £20m race

Time is running out for Leeds United to sign a new striker this summer with the start of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign drawing close.

According to L’Equipe, Stade Rennes have now joined the Whites in the chase to sign Paris Saint-Germain starlet Arnaud Kalimuendo with OGC Nice also keen to sign the 20-year-old.

But while Rennes’ presence in the race is not likely to be welcomed by Victor Orta, he could use that as leverage on Leeds’ part to make an offer for the French side’s own talismanic striker.

On 17 July, L’Equipe reported that Leeds United were rivalling West Ham United for the signing of Martin Terrier from the Red and Blacks after his best ever season in front of goal, with 21 Ligue 1 goals to his name.

Only Kylian Mbappe and Wissam Ben Yedder scored more than the 25-year-old who is in the form of his life and Orta wants to bring the Frenchman to Elland Road and now that the Hammers have signed Gianluca Scamacca, the chance is theirs.

Kalimuendo, who PSG value at £21million [L’Equipe], is now the deciding factor and once his domino falls, the entire rally will go with him whichever way his future is decided.

Jesse Marsch would undoubtedly want either or, in a dream world, both players to join him in Yorkshire and resolve the striker issues he faced last season with Patrick Bamford heavily injury prone.

The Whites now find themselves in a tricky transfer triangle but unless the French sides become suddenly stubborn, the American manager should have one or the other signed up before the window slams shut, even if they have to wait until after the opening game of the season against Wolves.

In other Leeds United news, the club have just received a six-figure windfall as one of the fringe players has sealed his exit from LS11.
