Jesse Marsch drops significant hint over his Leeds United intentions

It seems that new manager Jesse Marsch is in it for the long haul at Leeds United.

That’s after the American suggested that he intends to see out his contract at Elland Road, having already taken quickly to the club.

Following the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa last month, Leeds moved quickly to replace the Argentine with Marsch just a day later.

The 48-year-old put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Whites, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.

After defeats in his first two games, back to back stoppage time wins over Norwich and Wolves have given Leeds a big chance of avoiding relegation, although that is not yet guaranteed.

Now however, it seems as though Marsch is planning to stay at Leeds long term, even if they do slip out of English football’s top-flight in the next few weeks.

Speaking about his plans for his time with the club, Marsch was quoted by Leeds Live as saying: “The people here at Leeds are fantastic. They are humble, hardworking, friendly and kind. They have a chip on their shoulder, they do. It is the same as me, I have a chip on my shoulder too.

“I like it more when people are talking for me, rather than against me. But it is alright for me, between me, the club, the people and the fans, I have felt from the beginning that there is an energy and symmetry with us all.

“Let’s see where we can go. It’s just the start, we have a lot of work to do. The last part is that the club are committed to me, this isn’t just a four-month gig.

“This is a three-and-a-half year gig and this is the reason why I came, because they believe in me so much and I believe in them. So, there’s a lot to this, but for me, it is just about trying my best every day.”

This feels like a really good sign for those of a Leeds United perspective.

Marsch has clearly taken to Leeds very quickly, and it seems that he too has won round the players and fans with the never give in attitude his team are already showing under him.

As a result, you imagine there are plenty who will be excited by the prospect of what he is able to do with this team, especially after he has put his own mark on it in the Championship.

You feel that long term stability will also be a welcome addition for Leeds, given questions over Bielsa’s future could become a distraction from time to time, from the end of one season to the next.
