Report: Player open to fresh transfer agreement away from Leeds United

Cody Drameh would reportedly be open to a move back to Cardiff City if first-team opportunities didn’t regularly present themselves at Leeds United next season.

Leeds are watching Drameh thrive on loan, after the young full-back forced through a move to Cardiff in the January transfer window.

There was no option to buy inserted into that loan agreement at the turn of the year, meaning that Drameh is set to return to Elland Road ahead of 2022/23.

However, despite that, there could still be a chance that Drameh is once again on the move out of Leeds if first-team opportunities and regular game time isn’t there under Jesse Marsch, as per Wales Online.

“Drameh has made his feelings clear to Cardiff, though. If he is not guaranteed regular game time at Leeds United then he would be keen to countenance a move back to the Welsh capital. Leeds will likely want to keep hold of him for pre-season to assess him and Cardiff might not want to get into a similar situation that they had with Ryan Giles towards the back end of the January window. But Drameh has loved his time at City and if he felt it would be for the betterment of his career to have another year of regular football at Cardiff under his belt then he has shown he is headstrong enough to make that decision.”

The 20-year-old has made 18 appearances in the Championship since linking up with Cardiff, registering three assists for Steve Morison’s side to help them move clear of the relegation zone.

Prior to that, Drameh had emerged at Leeds, making five appearances under Marcelo Bielsa: three in the Premier League and two in the domestic cup competitions.

Yes

No

Given the circumstances that Drameh left in during the January window, this is quite understandable really.

Having moved out on loan and played regularly, Drameh is hardly going to come back in at Leeds and happily sit on the bench or in the U23s – he’s going to expect game time.

Given how he’s performed in the Championship, Leeds need to have a look at him over pre-season and offer him the chance of working his way into Marsch’s plans.

Luke Ayling remains the club’s right-back, but there’s a case for beginning to look beyond him heading into 2022/23.

Drameh should, hopefully, get the chance to stake a claim for his place in the side before anyone else.

If not, you can certainly see him back at Cardiff.
