Everton will be relegated from the Premier League this season while Leeds United and Burnley stay up.
That’s according to former Liverpool and Leeds striker Robbie Fowler, who is backing the Toffees to go down, despite admitting they now have momentum following last weekend’s win over Chelsea.
While both Watford and Norwich have now seen their relegation back to the Championship confirmed this season, there is still a battle going on to avoid the third relegation spot.
It is currently Everton who occupy 18th place in the Premier League, although that alone does not tell the full story right now.
Frank Lampard’s side are two points behind both Leeds and Burnley, with one game in hand on the Elland Road club, and two games in hand on the Clarets.
But despite that, it seems Fowler still expects the Goodison Park club to be playing second-tier football next season.
Speaking about the situation in the relegation battle after Burnley’s defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, and ahead of Leeds’ trip to Arsenal and Everton clash with Leicester on Sunday, Fowler told BT Sport: “It’s a tough one, I think that result today has certainly dragged them (Burnley) back into it.
“I think if they’d have got that result and that win today they would have been safe and it would have been between Everton and Leeds.
“Everton have got a little bit of momentum at the minute. You see the atmosphere the other week, you see the desire from the fans.”
However, with Fowler then pushed to pick one of those three teams to go down, the ex-England international admitted: “I’m going to say… I’m going for Everton!”
It is probably no surprise that Fowler has gone for this prediction of an Everton relegation.
Given his past connections with both Leeds and Liverpool, you do feel as though that is the outcome that would appeal to Fowler the most.
However, with the table as tight as it is right now, and all three teams facing some tough fixtures, it really is not easy to call any which way at the minute.
Even so, you wonder if the pressure of being in the bottom three as things stand, could get to Everton in the final few weeks, in a way that sees that pressure become costly for the Toffees.
