Police incident on M1

The M1 is closed at junction 44 due to a police incident in the early hours of this morning, with two lanes closed on the souhbound carriageway.

National Highways reported that traffic was being diverted onto the M1 southbound via the exit and entry slips at 12.57am on Tuesday morning. Officers from West Yorkshire Police are leading the incident.

Traffic officers are also present to assist with congestion, with Inrix reporting slow-moving queues in the area. Two southbound lanes remain closed as police conduct their investigations, causing congestion to junction 45.

The lanes are expected to be cleared by about 11am/11.15am with traffic conditions returning to normal at about 11.4am/noon, according to National Highways.
