Leeds United facing potential triple player blow following costly Chelsea defeat

Jesse Marsch could be left without a senior winger following Leeds United’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League last night.

Leeds remain 18th in the table and are facing up to the possibility of relegation back into the EFL after two seasons.

Last night, Chelsea were too good for them at Elland Road, winning 3-0 against a Leeds side forced to play with 10 men for over an hour after Daniel James’ red card.

James will now serve a three-game suspension following his heavy challenge on Mateo Kovacic, automatically ruling him out of the remaining games this season.

Marsch, though, is facing further headaches after Jack Harrison and Raphinha were also forced off against Chelsea.

Harrison hobbled off in the first-half and, as per Phil Hay, will now head for a scan on his injury.

Raphinha’s substitution was believed to be more precautionary, although he will still be assessed ahead of Leeds’ meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

To potentially lose all three of your wingers in one match, through a mix of injury and suspension, sums up Leeds’ season.

It’s been luckless in some parts and they’ve made their own luck in others.

Marsch’s side have their backs against the wall in the fight for survival and it’s difficult to sit here and convincingly say that they’re going to get the required results against Brighton and Brentford.

That’s a result of how they are playing at the moment but also because they are missing so many players through injury and suspensions.

A threadbare squad continues to be pushed to its limit at just the wrong time.

Quiz: Have these 15 current Leeds United players scored more or less than 10 goals for the club?
