Leeds United are keen to sign Chelsea centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to a report from The Sun, who say the Elland Road club are among a number of top clubs taking an interest in the 24-year-old.
Having come through the youth ranks at Chelsea, Clarke-Salter has only ever made three first-team appearances for the Blues, spending much of his time out on loan elsewhere.
The latest of those spells has been with Coventry City this season, where he has made 31 appearances in all competitions, helping Mark Robins’ to a 12th place finish in the Championship.
Now it seems as though his form in that time, is starting to attract plenty of attention from elsewhere.
According to this latest update, Leeds are one of the clubs now taking an interest in Clarke-Salter, along with Sheffield United, PSV Eindhoven and Club Brugge.
As things stand, Clarke-Salter will be out of contract with Chelsea this summer, and while they hold an option to extend that deal by a year, sanctions against the club mean they cannot take that up right now.
Consequentially, the 24-year-old could be available on a free transfer at the end of this season.
This may have the potential to be a useful signing for Leeds United.
Having shipped more goals than any other team except Norwich in the Premier League this season, defence is an area they will have to strengthen come the summer.
Clarke-Salter clearly has the potential to be a useful option in that position, while financially his contract situation could suit Leeds if they are able to pick him up on a free transfer.
It is also worth noting that if Leeds are to suffer relegation, Clarke-Salter’s experience of the Championship over the past few years, could make him a useful asset at that level for the club.
