It’s been claimed that Leeds United are interested in signing Malcolm Ebiowei from Derby County.
Leeds have joined the likes of Tottenham and Fulham by registering an interest in the 18-year-old, according to The Sun.
Ebiowei scored and assisted in the Rams’ 2-0 win over Blackpool at the weekend and has been catching the eye in the first-team under Wayne Rooney, despite his age.
With the winger out of contract at Pride Park in the summer, our writers Toby (Neutral) and Alfie (N12) discuss whether Leeds should be pressing on with their interest:
It does seem like this would be an appropriate sort of move for Leeds to make.
The Elland Road club have brought in a number of young players from other clubs in recent seasons, many of whom are now breaking onto the fringes of the first-team, so this is a system that works for them.
Ebiowei is an exciting young talent who has already made his mark in a difficult situation at Derby, suggesting he could cope with the pressure of competing in the top-flight.
Given he is out of contract at the end of this season, and with other Premier League clubs interested, this could be Leeds’ best chance to sign the attacker, and it could come back to haunt them if they don’t meaning this does look to be one worth pursuing.

This could really be worth Leeds pursuing.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a pool of very good wingers at Elland Road in the senior side and in the U23s, but Ebiowei is a player catching the eye at Derby in difficult circumstances.
It’s not been easy for the Rams at all this season and Rooney has been forced to rely on youth.
Ebiowei has been someone that’s adapted to the demands well, with his performance against Blackpool at the weekend particularly impressive.
The ability is there to see and Leeds has proved to be an environment where young players can thrive.
The finances will be fairly good given he’s approaching the end of his deal at Derby, although that could mean heightened competition for Leeds to overcome.
In terms of setting the wheels in motion, though, it’s a bit of a no-brainer.
