Leeds battle Spurs to sign forward who asks current club to smash wage structure – report

Leeds United are now battling Premier League rivals Spurs to sign West Ham talent Sonny Perkins, according to the Guardian on Thursday evening [09 June].

The newspaper has reported on their website that the young forward is asking the Irons to smash their wage structure in order to sign a new deal at the London Stadium.

It is shared that with Perkins’ current deal expected to end next month, Aston Villa are now set to also make it a three-club battle for the Englishman.

Perkins is still highly rated at the London Stadium, and has featured heavily at England youth international level in recent years from his success at academy level.

David Moyes has handed the 18-year-old senior minutes in the Premier League and Europa League, but doesn’t look like he is willing to break the bank to keep him around.

The West Ham board aren’t willing to make exceptions, and it looks as though Spurs and Leeds are ready to do just that as they look to strengthen their academies.

Money talks.

West Ham not putting the money on the table is a bold move, and they appear willing to let one of their brightest talents leave the club this summer.

Clubs such as Spurs wouldn’t be in this race if this was a player who wasn’t deserving of these wage demands, as it will be the exact same for interested clubs.

Leeds appear to be well in the race, with the Guardian focusing on their interest and only adding Spurs and Aston Villa as two clubs who are set to challenge.

Victor Orta is someone who relishes these situations, even with academy players, he has proposals and presentations ready that show clear paths and goals to aim for the first team.

Marcelo Bielsa was the master of bringing through academy players through, and it looks as though Jesse Marsch is the same, with Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt starting that final day win over Brentford that kept us in the Premier League.

This is one to watch.
