Leeds would not get eight-figure fee back for Bielsa obsession if major exit sanctioned – report

Leeds United would not get close to the £25million they paid for Dan James if they were to sell him this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It is reported that our fierce rivals, Manchester United, got lucky to earn profit on the Welsh international due to Marcelo Bielsa’s obsession with him over the years.

There is no suggestion that James is on the chopping block at Elland Road though, with Jesse Marsch getting well and truly stuck into the transfer market.

Writing for the Manchester Evening News, Tyrone Marshall delivered a big update on the potential windfall, if any, the Whites could expect in this current market.

“United got lucky with James,” he wrote.

“Marcelo Bielsa was obsessed with the winger and he’d done just about enough at Old Trafford to suggest there was still potential there. If Leeds were selling him now they wouldn’t get £25million for him.”

No need.

James has proven himself to be a real weapon at times for the Whites.

The one thing that frustrates everyone the most is that final piece of quality, if he could finish his dinner, he would one of the best around due to his speed.

That isn’t the case though, and Marsch will be working harder than ever to help him improve that at Thorp Arch and in Australia across the summer ready for the 2022-23 season.

Of course, James is suspended for the first Premier League game of the new campaign after his red card against Chelsea, but after that it is all systems go.

£25million certainly felt like a huge amount when it was paid, but you have to factor in the bitter rivalry that most likely was added on top of the value.

It wasn’t an amazing first season at Elland Road, but there were certainly glimpses that he can push on and become a real talisman for the club.

There is certainly no talk of an exit.
