It seems Manchester City are not the only Premier League team keen to sign Leeds United‘s Kalvin Phillips this summer.
That’s after a report from The Telegraph claimed that West Ham are still hopeful of signing the midfielder.
Recent weeks have seen City emerge as stand out candidates to sign Phillips this summer, with some reports claiming they are keen to have a deal done before their pre-season trip to the USA in July.
However, back in the January window, it was claimed that West Ham had failed with a ?55million deadline day bid for the England international.
Now though, it seems as though the Hammers’ interest in bringing Phillips to the London Stadium, reuniting him with his England midfield partner Declan Rice, has not gone away.
According to this latest update, West Ham still hope that they can complete the signing of Phillips, despite the fact that there is now interest in him from City.
There are two years remaining on Phillips’ contract with Leeds as things stand, and it has been suggested that the midfielder will cost in the region of ?50million to sign this summer.
This could well leave Phillips with an interesting decision to make.
A move to City would give him the chance to win trophies and compete in the Champions League on a regular basis.
However, he may find game time harder to come by at The Etihad given the other options they have in that position, which is less likely to be an issue at West Ham, although so is the chance of winning trophies.
As a result, Phillips will have to think long and hard about this decision, not least because it would mean him leaving Leeds to do so, and it still remains to be seen if any club will come up with the appropriate fee to sign him as well.
