Victor Orta made last-ditch swoop to seal major new Leeds signing – Phil Hay

Victor Orta made “last-minute overtures” to help Leeds United sign Rasmus Kristensen and stop him from joining Borussia Dortmund, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

Writing on The Athletic website on 8 June after Leeds confirmed the signing of Kristensen, 24, from Red Bull Salzburg, Hay claimed that Orta made a “detailed pitch” to the Denmark right-back, promising him regular Premier League football at Elland Road.

It is understood that other than Brenden Aaronson, Jesse Marsch told Leeds that he wanted no player more than Kristensen from his former club in Salzburg.

What a deal

Orta has received a lot of criticism for his transfers at Leeds United but you have to admit that the director of football is a very convicing man.

The Spaniard was vital in Leeds hiring Marcelo Bielsa as their manager in 2018, which was an incredible coup for, at the time, a Championship club.

He’s also done well to secure the addition of the bulk of Leeds’ first-team squad.

And while he’s had a lot of flops, we wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for the Spanish negotiator.

This deal for Kristensen feels like a good one and we cannot wait to see what the Dane can do at Elland Road in the 2022/23 season.

Leeds have been crying out for an upgrade at right-back for some time and Kristensen’s goal and assist record in Austria suggests that he could tear teams to shreds for Leeds.

Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas will miss the start of the season so signing a new right-back was non-negotiatable this season and Marsch’s previous experience of managing Kristensen bodes well for the Yorkshire giants.

It’s been a good start to this summer with Aaronson and Kristensen coming in.

Let’s hope the Whites can continue by adding to other areas of the squad.

In other Leeds United news, an official approach is set to be made soon for this Elland Road star.
