Leeds to finalise paperwork for new transfer, player likely on plane to Australia – Phil Hay

Leeds United are set to process the paperwork to finalise the transfer of Manchester City wonder Darko Gyabi this week, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist has reported that should that happen in time, the 18-year-old will be on the plane for the pre-season trip to Australia this week.

It is said that Leeds pushed for Gyabi after Jesse Marsch saw his performance as Manchester City’s under-23s won at Elland Road back in the 2021-22 season.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Hay shared what is currently ongoing ahead of the trip across the globe this week to really kickstart pre-season.

“Jesse Marsch, Leeds’ head coach, was in the crowd that night and sources close to Gyabi say that outing cemented the move,” he wrote.

“Provided the paperwork is processed in time, he will be on the plane when Leeds’ senior squad fly to Australia for a pre-season tour in a week, in the mix from the outset.”

Get it done.

Marsch looks to have done his homework early, and that has paid off for the Whites.

All of this talk surrounding James McAtee and Romeo Lavia saw Gyabi’s name go under-the-radar, but it looks as though that is what Leeds wanted.

Victor Orta moved quickly in the negotiations for Kalvin Phillips’ exit to make sure that this deal was also set up nicely to go through at a similar time.

Of course, he won’t replace Phillips straight away, but it gives Leeds more than £40million to work with, and another young wonder alongside Lewis Bate to take us into a new era hopefully.

Getting him on the plane to Australia will be perfect too, as it will integrate him into the first-team environment already, and get him in and amongst the squad to gel with them perfectly.

Phillips will be missed badly at first, but we have to move into this new era full of hope, not doom and gloom.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now want to sign this striker with a rival set to kickstart a major £30million+ transfer battle
