Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is confident of making a transfer breakthrough after having an approach rejected for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison according to The Chronicle.
90min revealed (21 July) that the Whites have rejected a £25million advance from the Magpies for the English winger, with Leeds looking for a “considerably” higher transfer fee.
However, despite seeing their approach rejected, The Chronicle has reported in its print edition on Friday (pg 48, 22 July) that Eddie Howe is confident of landing his targets.
Gathering pace
At first, Harrison leaving Elland Road did seem like a bit of a pipe dream with the club seemingly reluctant to let the 25-year-old go.
However, it does appear that the Whites are now facing serious interest from Newcastle with their pursuit of the winger really gathering pace in recent weeks.
It has been suggested that Leeds are after around £35million for Harrison and that does seem about the right price for the former Manchester City man.
He is an important part of the squad at Elland Road, but every player has their price and ultimately £35million for a player who’s entering the final two years of his contract is good business for Leeds.
If any move is to materialise for Harrison to depart, then it is crucial that the Yorkshire side get a deal done quickly with Newcastle in order for Jesse Marsch to find an adequate replacement for the 25-year-old.
His eight goals last season will be hard to replace.
This is a transfer saga that looks to be gathering pace of late and it is certainly one for Leeds fans to keep an eye on in the coming days.
