Club’s stance on revisiting January interest in Leeds United prospect becomes clearer

Hamburg are still interested in signing Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville when the transfer window reopens.

That’s according to a report from German outlet Hamburger Morgenpost, who point out that the 20-year-old is yet to establish himself at Elland Road.

Reports backs in the January transfer window claimed that Hamburg were keen to sign Summerville, although no deal ultimately materialised.

That is despite the fact that then-Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, admitted that the winger had been keen to leave the club, seemingly in search of more regular game time.

But while that pursuit may not have worked out for Hamburg, it seems the German second-tier side have not given up hope of signing the winger just yet.

According to this latest update, Hamburg are still keen to sign Summerville, although it is noted that the winger – who has just over 12 months remaining on his Leeds contract – would be one of their more expensive targets.

Since joining Leeds in the summer of 2020, Summerville has made eight first-team appearances for the club, although none of those have come under Marsch.

It seems that Leeds may have a big decision to make over the future of Summerville once the window opens.

The winger has struggled for game time under Marsch, and it may be tricky for him to get those opportunities, given his natural role as a winger does not really fit into the American’s style.

As a result, the fact he is into the final 12 months of his contract, could tempt Leeds to let him go, should the right offer come in.

However, if they were to do that, it would mean letting go of a clearly talented and promising player, without ever giving him a real chance to show just what he can do.
