Image: Kalvin Phillips shares quality tribute to Leeds United duo

Joe Gelhardt was Leeds United’s hero yesterday as he scored a 94th minute winner to secure a crucial three points against Norwich City.

Leeds had led through Rodrigo’s first-half goal, but were pegged back in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the second-half as Kenny McLean prodded home.

However, Gelhardt and Raphinha combined minutes later to send Elland Road into chaos and give Leeds belief that they might just have it in them to survive for a third season in the top-flight.

One man who continues to be absent from Jesse Marsch’s squad is Kalvin Phillips, although the England international wasn’t too far away from the action yesterday.

He took to Twitter to share a picture of himself embracing Gelhardt at full-time, as well as offering congratulations to teenager and Rodrigo for their goals:

Yes

No

It’s great to see that Phillips is still right in the thick of things despite his injury.

Marsch has already called the midfielder out on taking an increased leadership role within the side and pictures like this suggest that Phillips has got that side of the game in him.

He’s essentially a mentor for someone like Gelhardt, who is making his way into the first-team this season.

Yesterday ended in dramatic fashion and, in the future, it could be a day that the entire club looks back on fondly.

Images like this, then, could live long in the memory.

In what year was Jesse Marsch born?
