Victor Orta has been watching Marc Roca for a long time with the Spanish midfielder set to join Leeds United, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night (15 June) that it’s a “done deal” for Leeds to sign Roca, 25, in a deal worth £10.4million plus add-ons.
It is understood that the Bayern Munich player will undergo a medical with the Whites at some point this week.
The Athletic journalist Hay suggests that Roca is a signing that’s been pushed forward by director of football Orta, who’d watched the ex-Spain Under-21 international in his time at Espanyol before he joined Bayern in 2020.
“What Orta likes about Roca, from what I can gather, was his time at Espanyol, where he was extremely highly thought of and was developing into a top-quality player, which is why he went to Bayern Munich,” said Hay on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show podcast (16 June, 10m50s).
“What they know about him from Bayern Munich is told them that is that Bayern don’t have an issue with him really.
“They don’t see him as a player who’s never fitted in, they don’t see him as a player who’s been a poor choice when it comes to signing him in the place. They just have an extremely strong squad and an extremely strong team, which is difficult to get into.”
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have verbally agreed a deal for a Spanish club to make a windfall due to a 20 per cent transfer clause.
